recently defined the fate of the first great star of the video scandals that have occurred in Mexico in recent years. This is Gustavo Ponce, former Secretary of Finance of the government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who was sentenced to eight years in prison for money laundering.
Ponce was filmed playing in the VIP Lounge at Bellagio casino in Las Vegas betting on behalf of businessman Carlos Ahumada, intellectual and material author of the video scandals and who has shown that these trips were part of the web of corruption between the government of El Peje and the builders of the Federal District.
Today, while Gustavo Ponce is in jail, López Obrador continues to campaign throughout the country, calling to overthrow the federal government trying to impose their will on the parties that support him and run for a second time as President of the Republic .
And so far, López Obrador remains untouchable. All parties have denounced the dubious origin of the resources that financed its movement and the authorities elections do nothing.
counselors Federal Electoral Institute argues gaps in the law for not taking action against the former head of the Federal District Government, and sundry know, keeps his staff, his tours, rallies and other demonstrations with money allegedly from the coffers of the governments of Zacatecas, Guerrero, Mexico City and even municipalities where the governing Democratic Revolutionary Party.
As things stand, the upcoming midterm elections and the presidential election of 2012 will be more than an exercise in democracy-out war between candidates and parties tainted by the shadow of corruption and immorality.
And the referee of the contest? And the IFE? Well thanks. But perhaps too much to ask, reliable and fair elections to an institution which, unfortunately, is mortally wounded. So the only thing that Mexicans can expect is that a stroke of luck make the next presidential election will be won loud and clear, to avoid conflict post-election announced by the referee's incompetence and greed of AMLO.
